Vitamin C: Your New Favorite Antioxidant

6 February 2010 No Comment

Antioxidants help prevent production of harmful chemicals called free radicals, which may play a role in aging and the development of various diseases.

While there are plenty of other antioxidants, Vitamin C (aka ascorbic acid, if you like to read food labels) is an easy one to work into your diet (this way, you can avoid buying expensive vitamin tablets)

Red Pepper- It has more Vitamin C by volume out of anything you’ll find at your local supermarket (although the exotic Kakadu Plum of Australia has 1000% more). You can make yourself some delicious roasted red pepper soup or something even more creative like making your own marinara sauce and throw some peppers into the mix.

Kiwi – Kiwi is a really weird yet awesome fruit that you should consider adding to your fruit cocktail. It’s loaded with Vitamin C as well as deliciousness.

Broccoli - If you can stand the taste of raw broccoli then by all means, eat it! If you need to cook it to make it taste bearable, then go ahead, that’s healthy too. Broccoli contains tons of Vitamin C!

Strawberry – Who doesn’t like strawberries? enough said.

Oranges – Everyone knows oranges have lots of Vitamin C, right? They do, although they have less Vitamin C than all of the other foods listed above!
